Visual Locating
Practice visual locating by offering objects or toys from only the left or the right side. Wait for your child to ‘find’ the object with his/her eyes before handing it over.

Hide favourite toys (e.g. blocks or small balls) in a large container filled with flour. Move your hands through the flour together with your child to locate the objects.
Play a copying game with your child where you copy all his/her movements, vocalisations and other noises he/she makes.
Play a musical instrument or bang two wooden spoons together while moving around the room. Encourage your child to follow the noise as it moves from one side of the room to the other.
Provide a tasting activity by letting your child experience at least 5 different tastes, e.g. salt, sour, sweet, cold, warm, etc.
Regularly ask your child to find a specific object to measure his/her vocabulary.
Encourage eye contact by holding objects next to your face before giving it to your child.
Allow your child to take part in a shared game or shared play with his/her siblings or family at least once every day.
Warn your child 2 minutes before an activity will finish. Count to 10 together and say, “It’s finished”. – Corne Engels
