Hello, dear reader
My name is Corné Engels, founder of JericoGlobal. Please allow me to introduce myself and tell you how this company was brought to life.
After my studies I moved to London, England where I started to teach in Special Needs schools by pure chance. The encounters and revelations I experienced during those first months of being a special needs teacher changed my life in the most profound way. I soon decided that special needs teaching should be my career. For the next sixteen years I had the privilege to teach in eight schools, across London, which taught me about different types of disabilities as well as methods to engage with the learners. Teaching children with auditory impairment, moderate learning disabilities (MLD), severe learning disabilities (SLD) and profound & multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) gave me the opportunity to develop a variety of skills required to teach children with special needs.
As the years went by I gained incredible insight into how a child with special needs develop. I soon started to think outside the box by experimenting with numerous learning experiences and combinations of activities in the classroom to achieve maximum enjoyment and progress with each learner.
The more insight these teaching experiences provided the more love I developed for the special needs world. With a constant desire to give my best it pressed on my heart to create a platform of support for those with special needs, where it’s most needed. After sixteen years in England I decided to return to South Africa and build that platform here. Over the past five years in South Africa I’ve been actively involved with teaching, consulting and training in the Special Needs community. JericoGlobal was finally brought to life in November 2019 and with our brand new website I am ready to pull up my sleeves and get my hands dirty with you. My promise to the Special Needs community is that I will pour out all my experience, knowledge and love to ensure that you have a safe haven of support and understanding.
